One thing that baffles me about large companies is how much money they spend on defensive domain name registrations. These are domains that they'll never use but decide to register to keep them out of the hands of people who might do nefarious things with them.
This makes sense to an extent. Big companies should register key domains that might be misused or that might come in handy someday in the future.
But what I usually see are companies registering dozens or hundreds of domains of very little value. Anyone who wanted to do something nefarious with domains could easily find alternatives to use.
Case in point: this week, Reddit registered 50 domain names. While I see some defensive (or future use) value in some of them, most of them are a complete waste.
